April Nonprofit Professional in the Spotlight

Please join us in welcoming our newest IHS employee: Mackenzie Muller Stratton.  She is excited to be a part of our team as the Steuben Coordinated Transportation Volunteer Driver Program Mobility Specialist.  Mackenzie is proud that the program helps so many people and has enjoyed working with the different areas of human services.  On top of her regular duties of scheduling transportation, she has been working to recruit more volunteer drivers as demand for services is high.

IHS Educational Opportunities

Part of the mission of the Institute for Human Services is to provide free and low cost educational opportunities for nonprofit professionals.  Our April opportunities are based on suggestions from some of our previous workshops:

Workshop - "Adding Silver to the Rainbow: Providing Culturally Competent Care to the LGBT Older Adult"

This is a free educational opportunity for professional nursing staff and the healthcare workforce. Howard Brown Health Center in Chicago, IL received a federal (HRSA) grant to develop a comprehensive curriculum for nurses and healthcare staff focused on caring for the older LGBT adult. This cultural competency curriculum, named Nurses' HEALE (Healthcare Education About LGBT Elders), is being coordinated by Chemung Valley and Steuben Rural Health Networks and will be presented by staff from Howard Brown Medical Center on Wednesday, May 15th, from 9 am to 4:30 pm, at the Chemung County Health Complex. There is no cost to attend to this day-long training, however, registration is required.

"Tyrtle Beach" Campaign Kick-Off Party

In Central Steuben County, April is Tyrtle Beach season! "Tyrtle Beach," a month-long grassroots fundraising campaign that supports a wide variety of youth programs in the region, will begin the 2013 campaign with a Kick-Off Party on Monday, April 8th, from 5:30 - 7:30 pm at the Bath Country Club. The highlight of the evening will be the announcement and introduction of this year's mysterious "Tyrtle Beach Jumper," who will brave the chilly waters of Lake Salubria on April 26th for the cause. The event will also feature local legendary band Side of Pallet and there will be plenty of great food, raffles, and support of Steuben County youth. Tickets for the Kick-Off Party are $10 each and all funds raised will support youth programs.
